This category of disaster usually happens once in a circle of every 50 years when bamboos bear flowers as a process of natural renewal. Amazingly, a kind of bamboo even bears fruits. Wild animals like birds, boars and especially mice rapidly multiply when they eat the bamboo seeds. They enormously destroyed every crop in the farms and seeds being sowed. This happen particularly in the northern border line such as Chin State and northern part of Rakhaing State. The situation of the people in such areas became harder and harder for survival. Under nourishment and malnutrition is wide spread phenomenon in the region and children are the most vulnerable section of society to the famine. The soft killing process of the famine in the remote areas persists year long and it became harder and harder to survive as the situation prolong. This kind of natural disaster normally lasts 3-4 years. |
